What was, what is and what remains

This house has stood since 1350.
Founded as a hostel for those on the move, (much) later it became the city’s first art hotel.
A story of transformation, again and again, every day.
We build on what is already there.
On substance, on knowledge and skills, and on the experience of people who left their mark here before us, laughed and cried, celebrated life and negotiated the future.

Whoever walks through the blue corridor enters a past to which we have added a present.

Goosebumps - the feeling of being with the right people

We are not perfect.
We want to be credible in what we do.
Consciously chosen, well made, presented with passion.

What would be a perfect result for us?
Your inner approval.
A recurring aha experience.
And in the end the feeling that we are on the same wavelength.
This is resonance, or as we say: GOOSE BUMPS.

Timeless instead of zeitgeist

It’s okay to want to be contemporary.
We also know what is currently trending and where interest arises.
But we don’t always choose to pursue it.
We prefer to ask ourselves: “What suits this house, what suits us?”

Ultimately, we want to remain distinctive.

Don't make yourself small

We ask our employees not to pretend.
The guest is not king, and we are not lackeys.
Eye level instead of humping.
But anyone who is our guest should feel at every moment: “I am here for you now, with all my attention, and I want you to have a good time with us. Or, as we say, moments with goosebumps”.
Nothing more – and nothing less.

Every employee is responsible for the magic of the moment.

There, before anyone calls.
Away before you disturb.

Being a host is a question of dosage.
And there are many invisible actions in the background.

What is visible should then be like goose down: light, floating, temporary.

Hand-head work

We value things that show that someone made them.
With hands, heart and brain.
Furniture, materials, food, they can all have origins and signatures.

We like to do it ourselves, not because we have to, but because we want things to have a soul.
It is suitable for grandchildren when items age well over generations.

Sensual - with all senses

Arthotel means it’s not about basic comfort.
It’s about light, smells, contrasts, noises, proportions, colors, etc. In short: it’s about a stimulating atmosphere.

About good bread.
A beautiful glass.
Wood underfoot.
The strength of a piece of furniture.
About leather that you don’t sweat on.
Lights that don’t dazzle.
Sounds that embed you in a community.

Quality comes from small moments.
We call them goosebumps moments.

Tradition is not stagnation

Even though we can look back on centuries of tradition, we remain curious and think outside the box.
What can we connect with each other in an exciting way?
What has passed its peak?
What do we want to make a new tradition?

Tradition is not “peer pressure from dead people”, but the realization that something was once good and remains meaningful and valuable for us in the present.

We know where things are interesting

The Blue Goose has been a witness to the development of Salzburg since 1350.
For us, Salzburg is not a backdrop and does not only consist of Mozart, festivals and postcard motifs.
It consists of the stories that are told on its stages large and small, day after day.
It consists of people and the places they shape.

We would be happy to open the doors for you.

The true luxury is individuality

We don’t understand luxury externally.
For us it’s more like: time.
Attention.
A good conversation.
A handmade item.
A personal tip.
An unusual work of art.
An employee who, after a year, still knows which room you like and which wine you like to drink.
Rooms that don’t look like hundreds of others.

The true luxury is to experience individuality, in yourself and in others.

A house as a space for individuality

How we handle what we have been entrusted with

Sustainability is not a big word for us.
Rather a lot of small, conscious decisions in terms of material, origin, craftsmanship and care.

What will happen tomorrow

Suitable for grandchildren: we know we’re not done with it.
A house that has stood since 1350 has learned that a lot has to change so that what should last can remain.
That’s exactly what we’re continuing to work on, a little bit better every day.

What if people didn’t have to pretend to be right?

What if they had a place where they found meaning and community and the opportunity to grow?

What if they were allowed to try things out and find an answer to the eternal question: “Who am I?”

We counted.
A small melting pot that bridges cultural, religious and ideological differences every day.
Our only program: unconditional appreciation.
The conviction that we are different in knowledge, skills and talents, but all equal in dignity.
