The most beautiful running routes in the city of Salzburg

Running is more than just exercise. It is orientation, arrival, breathing. Those who jog through Salzburg early in the morning experience the city from a different perspective: quiet, awakening and unspoilt.
Your personal running experience begins directly in front of the Arthotel Blaue Gans. Two routes, two atmospheres: both lead out of the old town and into the nature that makes Salzburg so special.
The running trails around the hotel offer ideal conditions. They run along the Salzach river, through green parks or over the Mönchsberg hill. From there, you have a spectacular view of the city. The trails are suitable for beginners and experienced runners alike.
Would you like to take a panoramic tour or combine a longer route with sightseeing? Just ask at reception for the best jogging routes. We will be happy to show you how to experience Salzburg on foot.
The Blaue Gans Morning Tour takes you to Hellbrunn and back.
12 kilometres through the city, park and history.
You start in Getreidegasse. Everything is still quiet. The river accompanies you out of the city, while the soft morning light reflects on its surface.
You turn off towards Nonntal, run through the university park and then along Freisaalweg. From here on, it becomes green – and stays that way. Hellbrunner Allee leads you like an old tree tunnel to Hellbrunn Palace.
A short detour through the park, then back along the same route.
Duration: approx. 90 minutes
Feeling: space, breathing, rhythm
Highlights:
- Salzach riverbank
- Hellbrunner Allee
- Palace park
The Panorama Tour – Salzach Lakes and Mönchsberg.
Eleven kilometres connecting everything: water, views, city.
You run downstream and cross over at the Müllnersteg bridge. Salzburg’s waterways lead you out to the Salzach lakes, where you can enjoy a quiet, almost meditative moment.
The way back takes you through Mülln, followed by a short climb up the Mönchsberg. The city lies at your feet. The trail takes you past Mönchstein and the M32, along narrow
paths and under old trees.
The steps at Toskaninihof finally take you back to where it all began.
Time: approx. 80 minutes
Feeling: perspective, lightness, nature
Highlights:
- Salzach lakes
- Mönchsberg
- Panoramic view
