Reading room

Rescue.

If you want to retreat to think and read and don’t want to sharpen all your senses at the same time, you will find happiness in the reading room like Cicero: with a view of the herb garden, surrounded by beautiful and clever books from the in-house library. Bibliotherapy of the best kind, regardless of whether one reads for enjoyment, for stimulation or for knowledge and instruction. It’s an experience every time. And if you haven’t picked up the right book, even this one has a good page: the last one.

Guests included the annual Salzburg Literature Festival, whose co-founder Jochen Jung reports:

“The beer was refreshing, the Riesling too, the Lardo as perfect as the ham, so Max Goldt asked more to himself than to the group whether geese can actually be blue. From the answers that came, one of the literature festival poets could easily have conjured up a surreal goose poem. If the ‘Gans’ is an artHOTEL, then the Salzburg Literature Festival is definitely an artFESTIVAL – no wonder that the two are good to each other Once a year, when May comes to an end, the city is filled with the most diverse protagonists of contemporary literature, who read from their works and talk about them in various places in the old town and often continue this conversation in the ‘Blue Gans’, where one or the other Josef Bierbichler was already reading in the afternoon, Andreas Maier, Péter Nadas or Sibylle Lewitscharoff, who claimed that all geese have blue eyes.

For seven years, we transformed the reading room into a television studio during the first two weeks of the festival, to which ORF culture lady Barbara Rett invited the artistic elite of the Salzburg Festival to a one-hour conversation, which was broadcast on ORF III. Guests included Placido Domingo, Anna Netrebko, Peter Simonischek, Piotr Beczala, Birgit Minichmayr, Thomas Hampson, Mariss Jansons, Jonas Kaufmann, Franz Welser-Möst and many more.
